How to really help out SNAP recipients
Hey all. Much like a lot of people here, I was counting on my $250 of November foodstamps to get me though the month.
Now I’ve seen a lot of people talking about how the can donate money or food to programs to help, and while that’s all good, I’m going to be honest but donating to people directly would help a lot more (I think). I’ve been to the food banks around here only a few times, the days and hours each one is open are very limited and a lot of people (myself included) don’t have the time (due to work.. etc) or means to go stand in line on a certain day at a certain time in hopes of getting a box full of canned goods. I have also gotten things from the food banks that I have been inedible, way past their expiration… etc.
I think $20 in my pocket, or in the form of a grocery store gift card would be a lot more valuable to me and others than someone making a monetary donation to a food program. If you are someone who is well off right now and had money to donate, maybe consider purchasing some Winco/Fred Meyer/Safeway gift cards for your community members ❤️
