Want to leave my financial advisor, but how??
We have a 7-figure brokerage account that has been with the same advisor for decades. It's about 75% equities (50/50 split between growth and dividend-paying value stocks) and 25% muni bonds.
The advisor has us in 50+ individual equity positions, and frequently buys and sells to "rebalance." I think we need out of this situation.
I would love to set it and forget it with a simple ETF portfolio, but the long-term gains make it nearly impossible to transition without major tax implications.
We could do an in-kind transfer to our own account to at least avoid the management fee, but then we're stuck managing this Frankenstein portfolio? Tax-harvest liquidation could take years. Appreciate any advice.
