trying to get my parents to play and i need simple stuff

(5e btw)

my brother and i are trying to get our parents to play dnd with us, my dad hasn’t played since the 80s but he picks up on stuff fast, but my mom gets confused and i want her to enjoy it. my brother tends to not have the finesse it takes to explain something simply and he’s DMing so 🤷🏻‍♀️

point being, i need an easy way to explain stuff to my mom like having her build a character, the spells/abilities she has, what’s in your inventory, spell slots, etc. it can get confusing even for me and i know she would be embarrassed if it took hours for us to explain it to her.

i was gonna help her pick her character ahead of time, 99% chance its gonna be a sorcerer, so i’m gonna print out her spells and stuff in cards so she can see it and understand it better

any ideas?
