Regarding acknowledgement forms from broker
Hello,
Our employer uses an insurance broker to shop for plans that requires medical surveys along with personal information (including social security numbers) to shop for plans. On two of the acknowledgement forms, it states that the information could later be redisclosed and not be protected by federal privacy regulations.
I spoke with the broker who stated our company was ineligible for these insurances, but that the forms were still required. I asked if I was able to submit anonymously for the purpose of shopping, and he stated no, while also stating that they, the site for the survey and the insurances abide by PHI. He didn't address my concern regarding the redisclosure directly. He also stated that no provider could guarantee full protection due to possible hacking.
While I understand no provider can guarantee full protection, I thought there was a Minimally necessary information requirement? My questions are..
-
is this normal verbiage on an acknowledgement form from an insurance
-
is it usual for our own personal information to be disclosed to the insurance companies and no anonymous option when just in the shopping phase and
-
if neither of those are usual, what am I able to do next if anything? I dont want to be unable to receive insurance from my employer- I just dont want to provide my family's info to more than is necessary (especially if our company is ineligible for the plans anyway). I also am trying to navigate this gently as I am not trying to be difficult, just get clarification on the requirements and privacy rights
