how does dld effects math

So I am diagnosed with DLD and I have to take calculus next semester but the course doesn’t allow calculators. I’m thinking of asking accommodations for it, but I’m going to assume the staff wouldn’t really knowledgeable on DLD. So, I’m wondering if anyone can just tell me how DLD can impair mathematical abilities and how having access to a calculator will level the playing field. I know how DLD affects me but since I’m not a professional, there is some gaps and I would like to have a chance in self advocacy.
