AITA for refusing to host Thanksgiving after my in-laws used my house for their “private family meeting”?

AITA

My husband (33M) and I (31F) bought our first home last year. It’s not huge, but it’s nice, and we’ve been proud to host holidays since we’re the only ones with space for everyone.

Last Thanksgiving, my in-laws asked to “arrive early to help set up.” I was grateful, until I came downstairs after prepping food to find my entire in-law family sitting in my living room, door closed, having what they called a “private family meeting.”

When I asked what was going on, my MIL said, “It’s just a family thing, nothing personal.” I was literally told to wait in the kitchen of my own house until they were done. I was humiliated.

Afterward, I found out they were discussing a sensitive topic about my husband’s brother’s finances and apparently, I “wasn’t part of that side of the family enough” to be included. My husband was silent during the entire thing because he “didn’t want to cause drama.”

This year, his mom texted me asking what time Thanksgiving would start at our place again. I told her we weren’t hosting. She said, “That’s ridiculous, it’s tradition now!” I told her if she wanted privacy, she could have Thanksgiving at her own house.

Now everyone’s saying I’m “ruining the family holiday.” My husband thinks I “overreacted” and should let it go. But I can’t shake how disrespected I felt.

AITA for refusing to host Thanksgiving after being excluded in my own home?
