USPS not scanning first class mail?

I sell stickers and mail them out in flat cardboard mailers using the First Class with free tracking option. A LARGE amount of items that I've sent out in the last two weeks have not been scanned or updated at all. I have had two customers complain. This is really tough because my shop is new, and there isn't really a better option for shipping these that isn't horribly expensive. What gives
