Recovering republican
I grew up in a republican house hold, I really wouldnt consider my parents far right or extremist, just your typical right wing Christian southern family. So naturally I grew up republican just without the Christian side of it as I chose my own path there. I happily served 6 years in the alabama national guard in my 20s. Which is where I really started to pay attention to politics as my job in the army was a combat mos. So I started to really listen and do my own research on things instead of just hearing whatever fox news or my family said and saying " okay well that must be the truth ". And I believe thats when I began to change my views based on the credibility and the core values of some of the republican politicians.
I now find it very hard to be around my family due to their political stances and I see how hypocritical they all are. I use to think the republican party was for the American people. As a whole. Not just one side or the other. But now I see otherwise. I do still love them. But, they stand for things that I can no longer back, and their beliefs are absolutely insane to me. At this point its no longer about left or right. Its about morals vs corruption. Truth vs blatant lies. We the people are suffering. America is suffering. Im starting to wonder about the safety of everyone who is not a white Christian republican.
Am I the only one going through a similar transition?
