Can you fight Alberich with a character that isn't Karl?

Basically title, I have already beaten him with Karl and completed the quest, the fight is super cool but...would be a bit disappointed if you could only fight him with Karl.

I have tried to go there with another character but the furnace room doesn't spawn.
