Can someone fall out of love in a week?

Hello just as the title says Me and my ex have been texting for 8 months he has always been hot and cold with me ,we had few fights here and there.We had another small fight where we didn't speak for couple of days,he reached out and confessed that he has a feelings for me I confessed too. We were an item for a week (ling distance btw we live on different continents) After less than a week he told me he has no romantic feelings towards me .I felt crushed since I liked him for very long time,he suggested we part ways,has this happened before to anyone ?How can someone be sick of me in a week? Could it be cause I was too clingy? Admittedly I did shower him with love
