Have to move to Portland for family… where would you recommend? Deets below!

Hi all,

Seeking help deciding on a cute, quiet, and safe Portland neighborhood. I am begrudgingly looking to move to Portland part time from the Bay Area to help take care of elderly family.I grew up in a small town and don’t love living in cities but most of my friends & family have relocated to Portland area… I’ve visited a few times to see family and liked the NW area and all the cute little shops & parks near NW Thurman but in general don’t know much.

That being said, I’d love some info on good neighborhoods that would work with the below wants & needs. I will be without a car for the first few months as I’ll be staying mostly in California. I don’t go out much and prefer being closer to nature and good hiking/walking trails.

Need:

• 1bd/1ba ADU/apt w/ secured parking (budget: ~1550-1750/month)
• quick transit ride to PDX (20min max)
• ceramics studio within walking distance
• groceries within walking distance or a short uber ride

Want:

• quiet & safe living that feels like it isn’t the city
• great food! (Would LOVE authentic Mexican food)
• max 20min drive from central east side (nearish to OMSI)
