Help to buy isa

Anyone used a help to buy isa to buy a house? How did the process go?

I assumed the bonus went towards deposit but discovered that's wrong and it is claimed by your solicitor and they use it for their fees?

Im a first time buyers so it's all very new to me and appreciate guidance/advice
