fasting insulin result + unhelpful doctor experience

General/Advice

Hey guys, I just got my fasting insulin result back and it’s 7.30 µU/mL.

Two weeks earlier, I had these done:

  • Random glucose: 5.9 mmol/L
  • HbA1C: 5.22%

I’ve been struggling with hirsutism, fatigue, hair loss and irregular periods, so I went to my doctor thinking it could be related to insulin resistance or PCOS. Unfortunately, she wasn’t very cooperative. She only tested testosterone, FSH, and estrogen on the third day of my cycle and refused to order any additional tests even when I explained my symptoms and concerns.

When I mentioned insulin resistance, she dismissed it completely and said since my random glucose, TSH, T4, and other hormones were “normal” there was no need for further testing. She even suggested I might need to see a psychologist instead since i seemed very worried.

I also showed her my DHEA-S result (296.10 µg/dL) that I did at an external lab, and she said it’s normal (im 36yo btw)

During my last visit, I had to beg her to check fasting insulin and glucose. She finally agreed to fasting insulin but refused the glucose test, saying that random glucose and HbA1C were enough.

I’m honestly so frustrated. Do these results (fasting insulin = 7.30 µU/mL, random glucose = 5.9 mmol/L, HbA1C = 5.22%) indicate anything about insulin resistance? Has anyone had a similar experience with an unhelpful doctor?

Any advice or experiences would mean a lot <3
