About ghosting, why do people generally do it followed my making excuses to cover it.

It's a question both for men and women who have ghosted or been ghosted. I feel idk most of us might have experienced either of the situation. Being ghosted is definitely a lot worse tho especially when you really like someone. For me, i ghosted other people (these people actually double and triple texted me just to get a reply from me) for someone i really liked and at the he ended up ghosting me lmao ...and ik i made the wrong choices but I really care about that person a lot...and he just idk keeps gaslighting me. Late af replies and the only conversation we had was how was your day hahah somedays it was like how was your day i said good he said good and then the same question the next day and the cycle repeated for ages, felt like I'm talking to my uncle ngl instead of a romantic interest, i just kept waiting for him also for guys do they make it obvious by ghosting that they have someone else or they lost interest coz it's the same person I used to talk to the entire day. And the last time when I talked to him about it he told me oh sorry I forgot to reply , made me feel so unimportant lol. So should I just cut him off or stay for a while..just confused what he trynna tell me by ghosting
