HP Omen Max 16 high cpu temps
Hi i have an HP Omen Max 16 rtx 5080 ultra 9 275hx. I've noticed that while gaming the cpu often hits 100+c. GPU seems to do just fine at around 70-80c. This is while i have it set to performance mode in the Omen Gaming Hub. If i blast the fan to max of 6000rpm (sounds like a jet engine), it'll get maybe an avg 80-90c, sometimes fluctuating to 99ish but usually stays around 80-90c. This is with a laptop cooling pad as well; i have the flydigi bs2 cooling pad by the way; and honestly i dont think the cooling pad is even helping at this point.
If i switch to balanced mode ill get somewhat more decent cpu temps of around 70-80c with fans blasted to max 6k rpm.
This being said, I've seen a youtube video where a guy has repasted the thermal paste on this and it seemed to improve his temps by about 10c. Wasn't sure if he was on performance mode or not. Doesn't seem like the cpu can be underclocked as its an h series model and likely locked in bios. I'm thinking of repasting, as i've read elsewhere that HPs hybrid liquid metal paste is garbage and regular liquid metal or regular thermal paste is better.
I don't want to set power limit of the cpu to 95% or 99% in the settings either as it usually creates stutter in games.
Read elsewhere of people closing an hpomenmax.exe background task or something like that, but not quite sure if that'll work. I've only found a omenmaxcap.exe backkground process not the max.exe. So did not try it.
Somewhat of a loaded question but is it normal to hit 100c in performance mode unless you blast the jet engine fans on? Really, what i want to know is if anyone has gotten their cpu to stay around 70 to high 80s on performance mode while gaming with some other tweaks without having to blast fans to max, and if so how?
Balance mode cpu temps will fluctuate around 40-mid 50cs while idle, which i think is okay for a laptop, but still the gaming temps are concerning.
