Sidekicks: A Money-Grabbing Move by Epic
Honestly, I liked the idea of Sidekicks, but the fact that the customization is permanent feels like a gut punch from here to the Milky Way. I’ve read that this decision was a total disaster — it’s literally screaming in your face, “BUY MORE, DUDE.”
If the goal was to make your Sidekick “special and unique,” then fine, just make it so you can’t buy more. If you wanted it to be unique, do it like the Maya skin — you only get one.
But now it’s like they’re saying, “Buy the dog with the mustache, but if you want him with a hat, pay more,” and it’s the same dog. There’s no way to defend Epic here. If each Sidekick had just one unique version, that would’ve been like Maya, but if that’s their idea of “unique,” now you can have infinite dog styles — as long as you pay more money.
It’s like buying a skin and then being told, “Oh, you want to wear it without the jacket? That’ll be another 300 V-Bucks.”
And that’s being optimistic, because the dev said he thinks they won’t be expensive, but knowing Epic… yeah, people said the same about the shoes — which are smaller than the Sidekicks and cost 1,000 V-Bucks, more than a skin.
If I’m wrong and someone wants to defend a multi-million-dollar company, be my guest.
