Diagnosis of ADHD without completing assessment
So a few years ago I started to go through the process of getting diagnosed with ADHD. I went to the initial appointment but I didn’t get a reminder text about the next one so I didn’t go (very ADHD thing to do I know) a few months ago I was looking through all of my medical conditions on my insurance portal and I noticed that ADHD, unspecified type was there on my medical record. I just now got around to calling the clinic because I am considering medication and I wanted the record to give to my PCP. I called and they said they don’t have a diagnostic report or anything because I didn’t come back. She tried to say maybe it was from another provider but it says what provided diagnosed it. I told her that and she said she would call me back. I am kinda confused, I didn’t expect to be diagnosed after missing the appointment, but apparently I was, but maybe not really?
And if it was a mistake that’s a pretty big one to make if they are under the impression I don’t have it. Something like that can impact your ability to go into the military, make it harder to become a pilot, etc. Not saying I want to do any of that but you would think they would be more careful about putting that in someone’s permanent medical record if they felt they didn’t have enough information. Idk. I’m pretty sure I have it but generally that seems problematic and could f*ck someone over.
Anyone else had a similar experience? What do I even do? Should I try to just see if my PCP will prescribe based on symptoms I share plus this possible diagnosis? I have good rapport with my PCP and I am a mental health counselor so maybe that would help because technically I can provide others with provisional diagnoses.
