Speed in ZA

Analysis

I posted this in the ZA subreddit and I'm just passing it along here as well (with some additional razzle dazzle) incase anyone is curious about speed in this game.

+ Every point in Speed after 25 reduces the cooldown of all moves by a flat 1.8 frames
+ In essence, 75 Speed reduces cooldowns by 1.5 seconds
+ Likewise 125 Speed reduces cooldowns by 3 seconds

+ A move's cooldown cannot be reduced to lower than 3 seconds. Moves like Extreme Speed, Water Shiruken, etc. are already at a 3 second cooldown and are not made more efficient with speed. This is akin to their built-in priority; no matter how slow you are you can always use these moves as readily as possible.
+ Speed does not interact with the casting animation/time of the move selected.
+ The move Agility increases your pokemon's physical speed (as in how fast they move around the battlefield). It does NOT increase their speed stat in this game.

+ Moves with a 6 second base cooldown will cap at 125 speed.
+ Moves with an 8 second base cooldown (Surf, Ice Beam, Dark Pulse, etc.) will cap at 192 speed.
+ Moves with a 12 second base cooldown will cap at 325 speed.
+ Moves with a 15 second base cooldown will cap at 425 speed.

For other calculations, the formula is
Cooldown Reduction (in frames) = (1.8 x speed stat) - 45

These numbers make min/maxing practical. For example if your pokemon only knows moves with 8-second base cooldowns, it would need 192 speed for maximum efficiency; speed EVs beyond this point would be wasted and can be invested elsewhere.

The hypothetical fastest mons are Mega Aerodactyl and Mega Alakazam. At level 100, they can hit 438 speed. This means they can bring 15 second cooldowns (eg: Protect) down to 3 seconds. At level 50 the max speed these aforementioned pokes reach is 222.

Some moves in this game have much longer cooldowns (eg: Xerneas Geomancy has a 30 second cooldown). Pushing high speed for these moves is generally not worth it by virtue of it being unreachable in the first place.

In essence > A pokemon with high speed would benefit from pushing speed to a tier that lets them spam higher-cooldown moves efficiently. But at the same time a poke with high speed wouldn't benefit from spamming low cooldown moves. For instance, Greninja's Water Shiruken is a 3 second cooldown, and therefore running a positive speed nature or investing EVs in its speed is pointless for this move; though you could still run more speed for moves like Surf or Hydro Pump instead.
