Beware of Shady Practices
I am writing to vent a little...and I know most of the community will probably blame this on me etc. That being said, I just need to get it out there.
For the record, I pay the bills in the house...reconcile our accounts etc. My husband is AMAZING and thorough and does a ton but this is just how we divide our labor.
So - back in 2017 my husband signed us both up with Project Fi (now Google Fi) and purchased Google Pixel 2 phones. Project Fi only does automatic bill pay - bills come through the Fi App and with him being the plan holder the bills all go to his account. I guess when he originally signed up for the plan he somehow also signed up for device protection on our phones billed at $5 per phone per month or $10 total a month. Over the past 8 years we have changed the plan multiple times, upgraded phones, added our children to the plan...and we are currently on Pixel 9's. We have always loved being our phones and our plan and have brought a ton of people googles way by bragging about them.
I was just speaking with our internet provider trying to get into a new contract since our rates were so much higher. They mentioned that we could switch our phones to their plan for $100 for 4 devices with unlimited data and save $20 a month on our total bill for switching. I checked what we were paying (around $130) and reached out google to see if as loyal customers they could match what our IP was offering and we would stick with google. During that call they informed me that we were still paying for device protection for the pixel 2's. I grab my husbands phone and look and in the bill it says device protection $10 but does not say pixel 2 unless you actually click on device protection. I just thought this was something that was included with the plan!!
Google says so sorry - we can offer you 4 months in refund. I find this ridiculous since the phone has been discontinued since 2019 and all security updates stopped in 2020. They would not even be able to replace this phone if it was broken...and all of these phones have been broken (no security updates) since 2020!
