What Type of Wall Coverings Do I Have

Hey everyone, just bought a house that was built in 1930, although it’s been updated and expanded (unsure of when exactly).

Some of the walls and ceilings have some cracks that look to have been repaired, but are still visible and unsightly. I’m trying to figure out if it’s plaster and lathe or some weird precursor to drywall. It sounds hollow when knocking, but I tried pushing in a drill bit and it went in maybe an 1/8 to 1/4 easily then wouldn’t go further.

Cracks aren’t foundational issues, as an FYI.

Pictures here, https://imgur.com/a/PHOuSwJ, are of a ceiling in a bedroom. But it’s the same looks and fell and sound as what’s on the wall in other rooms

Any suggestions before I just start cutting pieces?
