The Hypocrisy of Wealth and Faith
In the name of the Almighty, we gather today to address a grave matter that plagues our society. A matter of hypocrisy, a sin that tarnishes the very essence of our faith.
Wealth, a blessing bestowed upon us by God, should be used to nourish and protect the weakest among us. Yet, we witness an alarming trend where the rich, who call themselves Christians, live extravagantly while children go hungry. This is not the path of righteousness; it is the path of hypocrisy.
The Bible warns us, "Woe unto the wicked! It shall be ill with him: for the reward of his hands shall be given him." (Isaiah 3:11) The spoils of the poor are in your houses, yet you feast on lavish banquets. You beat the faces of the poor, grinding them underfoot, while God stands ready to judge.
We must remember that our faith is not a cloak to hide our sins, but a beacon to guide us towards righteousness. Jesus Christ calls upon all to live with faith, fear, peace, long-suffering, patience, temperance, holiness, and sobriety.
Let us not forget the words of Father Bourdaloue and Father Cheminais, our preachers, who taught us that our morality should be measured by our actions towards the less fortunate. If we claim to follow Christ, let us feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the sick.
We must strive to live a life of laborious and frugal manner, as our religious brethren did in the dark ages. Let every hour of our lives be spent in caring for those in need, and in the exercises of our faith.
Let us not be like those who exaggerate, poison, and distort truth to serve their own interests. Let us not allow ourselves to be blinded by wealth and power. For it is written, "The LORD standeth up to plead, and standeth to judge the people." (Isaiah 3:13)
Let us turn away from hypocrisy and embrace true faith. Let us feed the hungry, clothe the naked, and visit the sick. For it is in these actions that we shall find salvation.
May God, the inspector of all things, grant us the strength to live a life pleasing in His sight. Amen.
