Scrub Typhus in Biratnagar , Help !
My grandmother, who is in a village near Biratnagar, was diagnosed with dengue about three days ago. However, today she got diagnosed with scrub typhus as well. I did some research online about scrub typhus ; its symptoms, tests, and diagnosis but I’m looking for more specific guidance on what to do next.
Here are my main questions:
1. Test Availability in Biratnagar:
I’m not sure if the local hospital has the required kits to test typhus. My grandmother has government insurance, and we’re considering taking her to Koshi Hospital (public). Does anyone know if they offer scrub typhus testing there, or do we need to go to private hospitals like Nobel or Birat Teaching?
2. Medication & Treatment Process:
What kind of treatment is typically given for scrub typhus? Are there any specific medications or protocols to follow? Is it the same in government and private hospitals? Any recommendations on what has worked for other people with this condition?
3. Precautions to Follow:
What should we do and avoid during this time? I’ve read that avoiding certain foods and activities is important, but I’d love to hear from anyone with experience on what specifically helped their loved ones.
4. Serious Complications to Watch Out For:
Are there any serious complications from scrub typhus that I should be aware of? What are the warning signs that things are getting worse?
5. Recovery Time:
How long does it typically take for someone to fully recover from scrub typhus? I understand it varies, but any general advice or timeline would be helpful.
I’m really worried about her health, so any advice or tips would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!
