I can’t even remember the last time my 19 month old cleaned her plate

18–24 Months 👼

Anyone else in the same boat with the picky eating?! Here’s a little backstory as well:

I’ve had one hell of a time figuring out my daughter’s eating habits since the day she was born. We dealt with horrendous reflux and feeding difficulties (which is supposed to be the easy part, right?) when she was an infant. We went through bottle/feeding aversions because she associated the bottle with pain and refused to eat at times - unless she was asleep. We had to “sneaky” feed her for months and months. Even after it got a bit better, she was never a big eater. I remember she took her first 6oz bottle right around the 12 month mark. Prior to that, she would only take 3-4oz at a time throughout her whole baby life. I was SO relieved when we could finally stop bottles and formula.

For the most part, solid food has gone well. She’s actually proven to be a good eater (at times) and definitely enjoys food, when she wants it, but the last month or so we’ve gone through a lot of harder and pickier eating days. And naturally, as a mom who has always worried about her food intake since she was born, I start getting anxiety when she doesn’t eat well…

For example, today, she ate a few bites of her mini pancakes and it took her about 1 hour to finish her stony field yogurt pouch. This was at 8am and I figured she’d be hungry at lunch around 11am. I made her scrambled eggs w cheese, avocado, and a slice of toast with jam. She mostly just ate the avocado and that’s it. She usually loves eggs but the last 2 times I gave them to her - nope!

It’s probably been 2 weeks since I’ve seen her eat everything on her plate. I almost always give her 3 things for the 3 compartments on the plate.

She’s 19 months old and still only has 6-7 teeth. Maybe she’s teething? Maybe it’s just some weird phase? Would love to know what your methods are when your toddler won’t eat much but you have built up anxiety about it all??
