Spider season

I live in a spooky old converted mansion, and this would normally be the time we start to see the big house spiders wandering in from outdoors. However, I have yet to see one. Similarly, I work outdoors and am used to contending with orb weaver constructions on the reg, but there seem to be far fewer this year.

Is it just me or are there fewer spiders around? I don't necessarily miss them, but it seems off. Anyone have insight?
