Great-grandmother's quilt

Historical/Antique Quilts

My dad just gifted me the quilt that my maternal great-grandma made as a wedding present for my parents. Isn't it lovely? I had to share :)

My mom used to talk about how when she was little she would lie down underneath the great big quilting frame and watch her grandma and her grandma's friends work. The needles would be going in and out and the ladies' hands moving back and forth while they talked and laughed in German (very little of which my mom understood).

It's a full-sized quilt that was on our guest bed when I was a kid. I'm not sure if the pattern has a name but the leaves are hand-appliqued and the wreath is embroidered with an outline stitch (or maybe a stem stitch?). The piecing is machine stitched while the rest is hand done. The latest it would have been made was 1971 but may have been completed earlier and not gifted until then.
