A Possible Explanation For Pansychism Based On String Theory?

I've been exploring this idea recently, something I've come up with that boils down to this - consciousness and matter might be two aspects of the same underlying resonance.

Right, so, here's where I'm at:

String theory tells us that all point particles are in fact just different vibrations of fundamental strings, which make up all reality. (One vibration gives us an electron, one a quark, etc.)

But what if these string vibrations actually gave off two aspects:

  • a measurable energetic side (matter, mass, charge, spin, etc)
  • an informational or awareness side, like a simple, single 'wave' of consciousness (qualia field, maybe?) [that, currently, can't be measured. Perhaps on a dimension outside space and time?]

Cymatics are my preferred way to illustrate this idea: geometric patterns that form in fine sand on a surface if a sound is passed through. The vibration is invisible, but it creates the visible pattern. So, mapping that onto my idea: a string's vibration gives the image (matter/energy) and sound (single basic wave of consciousness)

Now, let's say this applies to every single particle in the universe. Each vibration, for each particle, also generates a minute amount of consciousness. However, what if there's something special about the vibration of a string that gives us the electron? For whatever reason, this particular consciousness wave is at the right 'frequency' to resonate with the same waves given off by other electrons. I was reading a book the other day that mentioned the concept of Langmuir waves in plasma (ionized gas, a collection of free electrons) which could perhaps be a low level of proto-consciousness, as the consciosuness waves of these electrons resonate together?

From there, perhaps it scales up: plasma, fusion, stars - which become hubs or nodes of 'basic consciousness'. Scaling up further, we get entire galaxies comprised of these nodes. Roughly 2 trillion of these galaxies make up our known universe.

Now, connecting to a previous paper about the striking similarities between the way galaxies are organised compared to neurons in the brain, let's throw out a wild theory: the known universe, through mass resonance on an unimaginable scale, generates a universal consciousness.

So with that, here's part 2 of my theory: after eons, evolution has produced creatures with biological systems complicated enough to tune into/receive a small portion of this universal consciousness. Brains, specifically, are the complex system - humans having 86 billion neurons means we are capable of accessing a portion of this universal consciousness, a large enough portion to be self-aware. In my view, all ideas, art, science and every thought comes from this collective plane of awarness. Becuase each brain is tuned into a different sequence of the same portion window, we get different personalities. Dreams, meditation, psychotic episodes, drug trips - all of these are simply different ways of opening the human brain's aperture ever so slightly, allowing a greater portion of this universal consciousness in.

Tying things back into electrons, the notion that the sodium/potassium pump is a key part of neurons firing in the brain really interested me - simple, s-block element ions being so important for generating thought? I think the electron resonance plays a factor here (I'm still working on this big mad thoery so I don't have all the answers/connections figured out, but I'm enjoying the hunt)

So to sum it all up, my theory here asks what if consciousness isn't something the brain produces, but something that it tunes into?

The "hard problem" answer is this: how can a purely physical system have a non-physical feeling or awareness? Because everything in the universe has two sides to it - the physical and the experiential. We have simply evolved systems with complex enough resonance (brains) to tune into that experiential field.

(Bonus fun tidbit: modern science agrees that the human brain has an estimated 86 billion neurons, and the universe has an estimated 2 trillion galaxies. If we were to try and give exact figures (say 86.016 billion neurons and 2.048 trillion galaxies)... that means the human brain tunes into exactly 4.2% of the universal consciousess. Any Hitchhiker's Guide fans out there?)
