$ADUR/$ACT - Deep Dive: Chemical Recycling Company with Major Oil Partners Testing Their Tech

DD

Market Cap: ~$440M USD | ~$600M CAD | Exchange: NASDAQ | CSE

Company Overview

Aduro Clean Technologies has developed Hydrochemolytic™ Technology (HCT), a patented water-based chemical process that breaks down contaminated and mixed plastics at significantly lower temperatures (390°C) compared to traditional pyrolysis methods (500-700°C).

The company operates in three verticals:

  • Plastic Chemical Recycling - Focuses on contaminated/mixed plastic waste streams
  • Bitumen Upgrading - Reduces viscosity and improves quality of heavy crude oil
  • Renewable Oil Processing - Converts bio-oils to renewable diesel feedstock

Key Fundamentals

Financial Position:

  • Cash: $15M (sufficient runway through 2026)
  • Quarterly burn: ~$2.6M
  • Revenue: Minimal (pre-commercial stage)
  • Recent raise: $12.6M in June 2025 via public offering

Share Structure:

  • Outstanding: 30.8M shares
  • Float: 18.7M (relatively tight)
  • Insider ownership: 39%
  • Institutional ownership: Growing post-NASDAQ listing

Strategic Partnerships & Catalysts

Current Customer Engagement Program Participants:

  • TotalEnergies (Market Cap: $380B) - 2+ year paid engagement, final phase completing Q1 2026
  • Shell GameChanger (Shell Market Cap: $200B) - Accelerator program, approaching "graduation"
  • GF/Uponor - Testing for crosslinked polyethylene recycling (currently no viable recycling method exists)
  • 3 additional confidential petrochemical/packaging companies

Near-Term Catalyst: NGP (Next Generation Process) pilot plant commissioning by end of 2025. This represents a critical de-risking event, moving from "proof of chemistry" to "proof of process" - enabling real economic modeling for commercial licensing deals.

Investment Thesis

Why This Could Run:

  • Successful NGP pilot validates economics of $25-50M revenue per 100kt plant at 60-75% margins
  • First-mover advantage in contaminated plastic recycling (80% of plastic waste market = $120B+ TAM)
  • Multiple Fortune 500 companies already paying them for testing
  • Patent-protected technology with 10 patents (7 granted, 3 pending)
  • Licensing model = high-margin, capital-light scaling

The Float Situation: Only 18.7M shares freely trading with 39% insider ownership. This thing moves on volume - not marginable at most brokers means shorts can't easily pile in. When news hits, supply is extremely limited.

Comparison to Peers

vs PureCycle (PCT - $2.5B market cap):

  • PCT requires clean polypropylene feedstock (spoiler: there isn't enough)
  • PCT's plant can't hit capacity targets
  • ADUR targets contaminated waste (way bigger market)
  • ADUR trading at 1/5th the valuation despite being at similar stage

Translation: If ADUR proves their tech works, just matching PCT's multiple = 5x from here

Price Targets Based on Q1 2026 Pilot Results

  • Success: $30-50 range (2-3x minimum, could see 5x on commercial deal announcement)
  • Mixed results: $20-30 range with high volatility
  • Failure: Back to $10 (but they've already proven the chemistry works in lab)

Why I'm Betting Big

The risk/reward here is textbook penny stock asymmetry. Downside is maybe 40% if pilot fails. Upside is 200-500% if they prove commercial viability and land their first licensing deal with TotalEnergies or Shell.

The fact that oil majors are paying them to test (not the other way around) tells you everything. These companies don't waste time on science projects.

Position: Long 6,000+ shares. Adding on any weakness before pilot results.
