Do any of you guys relate?

:53: Rant & Vent

I'm in 4th year of my engineering degree (CS) and i got one semester left. And rn is the time when the companies start to recruit freshers bascially the placements are starting to take place. I've always been the type to do good enough academically, meaning i do well to pass the university exams, get an above average cgpa without any backlogs. But that's the thing, I've only studied for passing exams, not to actually learn coding practically. And maybe I'm wrong, but i feel like a majority of students in this field are like that, and ig a big reason why is that they're not passionate about coding. And i can't say I'm that passionate either, I've felt just neutral towards coding.

I asked my clasamates about their future plans and the majority are clueless, they too haven't really learned coding for prcatical use, only studied to pass the exams. And there's those very few(1-2) students who are the nerds of the class, when i talk to them they are really passionate about getting a tech job(mainly as a developer). I can see when i talk to them that they aren't really intrested in anything else but coding and getting the job, working for the company. Needless to say, they enjoy that path. And the point im tryna make is that when i talk to them, i feel very distant, like i don't actually feel the interest or enjoyment towards coding like they do. And i do sort of envy the interest that they have for it, but at the same time i can't fully say yes if i were to be asked "do i want to be a person who's a tech nerd?" Perhaps what i envy is that they have a clear aim about what to do with their life.

A part of me feels like I'll get stuck in the rat race when i think of that path which those toppers like, working a 9-5, typing away on a screen in your cubicle, working for years chasing a raise in salary. Maybe it isn't like that and someone could correct my perception. That path feels like if you aren't a topper or really skilled top tier student, you'll need to work for years on end to get a good enough salary which actually justifies the price of the btech degree that i took.

But I'm not stubborn to a point where I'll fully deny it, meaning If thats the path that i have to take, then I'm fine with it. I'm keeping an open mind to it. It does feel like I'm going with the flow, like the majority of my class but thats why i wanted to make this post.

Any of you guys in similar situation? Anybody who is past this stage in their life? Any suggestions/advice on how i should move forward or what i should do would be appreciated. Any advice to clear up the ignorance, confusion and the aimlessness about placements and jobs in general would be appreciated too.

For context, Im from a middle class family like most ppl and took the course because parents wanted an engineer
