Have you tried joining a sports team's training at your university/school?

We had this one phys ed sport that I enjoy and every week I'd look forward to phys ed day just to play. So I got a friend to ask our teacher because he has a sports team at school. He said we can train with them. I've watched their team play a few times and I'd say the training was much more advance than what was taught to us during phys ed. I'm excited and scared at the same time.

Has anyone else joined a sports team or at least a training with athletes? How was it? Was everybody else nice and patient?
