Is it really safe to drink direct BMC water in Mumbai without filtering or boiling?

I’ve read that BMC claims Mumbai’s tap water is potable and within safe limits..some reports even say it’s comparable to bottled water. But I also keep hearing that contamination happens after it reaches our buildings due to old pipelines..
