Newborn care specialist vs doulas
For people asking when to book newborn help , as soon as you know you are pregnant!!! I am a pp doula and newborn care specialist and my clients often tell me they are expecting before they tell anyone else. I even had a repeat client plan their second child around my availability. If you are planning on having help , do your homework before you’re pregnant then put the call in asap to lock in the help when you get that positive test! Good post partum carers book up quickly.
For those that are interested , there is a difference between a post partum doula and a newborn care specialist but there is some overlap. Doulas are help for the whole family. Some doulas have a preference to what household help they provide , some will cook meals or walk the dog . Some will help with sibling care. Best discussed up front and set forth in a contract . A newborn care specialist is just that , someone that focuses on baby and mom. Not basically just a babysitter as someone previously commented . They usually take care of baby related tasks ,feeding ,changing helping to shape sleep ,baby laundry and restocking nursery supplies . Both are educators and can help first time parents with infant care , basic breastfeeding help and most things baby. Doulas seem to be more well known and you can be reimbursed through insurance for their time in some states. Also it’s becoming more popular for large companies to provide post partum care through benefits such as Carrot so always a good idea to check in with insurance and HR.
