Sometimes it’s just fun to watch a movie for the action, not the accuracy
Movies are made to entertain, not play by the rules of nature. So the fact that disaster movies are held to higher standards than sci-fi is unfair. Maybe the world will never shift the way it did in 2012, or fracture the way in San Andreas; maybe tornadoes can’t combine like in Into the Storm, or the La Brea tarpits will never erupt like in Volcano, or a comet won’t be blown up like in Deep Impact. So what? Sometimes it’s just fun to watch the world fall apart or go haywire.
At the end of the day the movie is still a movie, still fiction. Maybe based on real or possible events, but fiction nonetheless. Just sit back and watch the world burn, and stop nitpicking all the little inaccuracies.
Half the post-apocalyptic series out there have just as many inaccuracies, but don’t get the same scrutiny as disaster movies.
