Getting closer to retirement and considering teaching – looking for advice
I’m about 2 years away from retiring from the military, and lately I’ve been seriously considering a career in teaching. I’d really love to hear from anyone who has gone through the Troops to Teachers process, or even just looked into it.
For background: I’ve got both a bachelor’s and a master’s (though not in education), and I spent 4 years of my Air Force career as an instructor. A lot of my family members are educators, so I know firsthand about the challenges that come with the job. Still, I feel strongly about giving back and being there for kids.
Fortunately, I’ll have my pension, so money isn’t the priority for me. My main goal is to contribute and make a difference. I’d really appreciate any insight or advice on this path, whether it’s about certification, Troops to Teachers, or what the transition into education looks like.
