From random binders to organised collection; what I learned about tracking value in the Pokémon TCG world

Hey all, longtime Pokémon card fan here. Recently I realised my “collection” was more of a mess than a hobby: binders overflowing, no clear record, “what did I pull when”, “what did I pay”. So I dug in.
I compared how different platforms list card values, looked at actual sold data vs listed ‘market’, and found out: many cards are mis-valued in your mind. I built a small application that automatically tracks card listings and shows you what your collection is worth now, not what you thought it was.
Here’s the insight:

  • Using only average listing price = misleading. Recent sold price gives better value.
  • Condition and timing matter more than you may think: same card, one month later, big difference.
  • Tracking your collection isn’t just bragging rights, it helps you make smarter decisions (keep vs sell vs trade). Would love to hear: Do you track value? Set completion? Or just pull and enjoy?
