AITA for calling out a rich guy who laughed about food stamps getting frozen???

soo like this happened today and I’m shaking. btw I’m a 26f volunteer at the free breakfast on saturdays and I recycle, idk if that matters but just putting it out there.

so I’m in get woke coffee (the one with the oat milk bar) and they have the news on. the ticker says snap is froze because of the shutdown. that’s literally kids meals so my heart is already in my throat.

enter greg. he wears this gross tee that says “on my break” and he literally struts. no one else is in line but he still cuts. whatever. I let him go because I have grace.

he orders black coffee then tells the barista “make it fair trade, I care about peasants.” dead serious. I go “wow I volunteer at the shelter and actually feed people.” he says “I donate money, same thing.” I bite my tongue.

then the snap story pops up and he goes “lol why don’t they just get jobs.” I see red. I say “some of us can’t live on daddy’s hedge fund.”

the next part sucks: three older guys at the corner table start white knighting him. “greg’s just honest.” “lazy people hate truth.” I’m like “you’re cuddling a guy who thinks hunger is funny.”

greg smirks “calm down, charity girl.” so I snap “you’ve never worked a real day, stop judging families who literally need 3 bucks to eat.” I grabbed my latte and left.

my bestie texts “you were harsh, he can’t help being born rich.” now I feel ick. reddit, am I the ahole for yelling at him??
