Where to live if working in Palo Alto?

Hey Everyone, I have an offer for a job in Palo Alto, but I'm not sure where I should live. I would prefer to be in a city because I am 25 and want to have a strong social life. Is the commute from San Francisco to Palo Alto every day feasible? Would it be better to live in San Jose? If anyone has lived in these cities or done this commute before, I would appreciate your advice.
