Fight For Love - Episodes 1-4 Discussions
Hello hello, I'm back for another round of hosting duties. Sorry this is late, it's been hectic at work. Then I had to bake and now it's like 10... Let's start shall we?
Fun Fact: Mechanical Crossbows were developed during the Warring States Period (5th Century BCE) and they were massed produced during the Han Dynasty. They were improved upon during the Song Dynasty, when they found ways to reload the crossbows faster and more efficiently.
How my Discussions Work: I start rambling or with a fun fact or both, I link all previous discussions or if you're joining me randomly mid show, one of the links will take you to all the discussions, I put a spoiler warning, then discussion questions and then my commentary, which is literally a commentary...think Mystery Science Theater 3000...I type what I'm thinking as I watch the show. If you don't want to read through it, skip it and head to the comments, I'm pretty responsive there. :)
Spoiler Warning: If it's past episode 4, please put it under a spoiler tag. If you are on episode 5 and you want me to keep up with the express episodes, let me know in the comments, if there are enough people then I will include the SVIP, if not I say we be fair and just go off the normal VIP schedule.
Discussion Questions:
-
Anyone read the novel?
-
Did they really have to kill off brothers 1-6 in episode 3? I was NOT expecting that.
Episode 1
So, it says 遂 Sui...which doesn't actually exist...different than 隋 the actual dynasty...I had to look it up in case anyone is interested lol
First impression, pretty impressive female general already and rough that she was there when her father died.
Gotta love our females in red, I think the sword dance was pretty good
Our ML is already intrigued
I like the cheeky look he gives
Why was he stationed up north? Gu Chusheng doesn't seem like that great of a dude...spineless
Also, kinda awkward that he thought it was all about him
7 brothers?
LOL the writing messed up
Is he actually suspicious or is he jealous?
This little sister seems like a brat...the mom is already annoying me. Is she her birth mother and are they actually full siblings? I guess that's my question, I feel like the catty attitude is usually reserved for half siblings and for mothers who aren't really the actual mother...but if they are full blood related, then both of them are annoying
Ah a motive, she definitely didn't seem like the type to do such a public display
These brothers are funny lol
I give it up to Ding Yu Xi, he really does have a youthful demeanor so far here, I love it.
LOL the brother scolding them for eavesdropping
3 years older in the show, 8 years older in real life, I'm ok with it. Also love her come back here about the little kid LOL
So everyone is married except the eldest and youngest? That's fun. The mom is a bit snobbish
I wonder if there is going to be some affection between the eldest brother and Chu Yu or if it really is just admiration and kindness.
So 2nd brother has a loving marriage
3rd brother marriage seems tumultuous
4th brother's marriage seems ok
5th brother's marriage seems forced :(
6th brother's marriage seems loving
...seems like their new automatic crossbow is like a shotgun, it kicks back pretty hard and leaves a bruise
Cao Yan already looks like a jerk
Episode 2
I was right Cao Yan is a jerk
At least the Duke's daughter isn't catty towards Chu Yu
At least Gu Chu Sheng protecting his wife, redeems him a bit
Interesting moment between our leads

Ding YuXi really does have the best expressions
Just because I thought this was adorable...is he jealous and had to interrupt? Or is he just really wanting to know what they're talking about..

Wei Yun does have a crush, I mean, I don't blame him, she was stunning doing her sword dance.

Wei Jun, good for you with this statement...
https://i.redd.it/zhha8jpa1eyf1.gif
I actually think this is a very cool scene, great choreography
https://i.redd.it/1zjocx4d1eyf1.gif
lol I love the drawing straws thing
I am worried though, pretty sure we're going to lose at least one brother...if not like basically everyone but Wei Yun right? I feel like this is the way of cdramas, especially an entire military family...
Honestly, it really does seem like there's more chemistry between Wei Jun and Chu Yu and Wei Yun has a bit of longing and jealously that works too. I actually don't know anything about this show, I'm guessing there's some backstory here.
Every time she says "when he comes back" we all know in CDrama-land that means he's not coming back right? I hope that's not true...
Well, the siblings are sure acting like siblings lol
So...the Crown Prince is going to cause everyone's deaths.
I am worried, I was really hoping I wasn't telling the truth...surely not ALL of them die right? RIGHT
omg that's the worst way to end an episode
Episode 3
Omg, please not all of them...
They both thought about their wives while holding onto each other...
No seriously...ALL OF THEM. Is this AJTL and WoL? Dang it, maybe it's when it ends in Love?
Tell me Wei Jun lives at least...
Why do this to us...showing all them :(
Wait, Wei Jun is alive right?
Dang the Northerners are savage...ambush, killed off thoughts of men and now burning the granary...
He's still alive...but now I feel like he's also about to die. Dang it, why
Oh no...his brother is going to take the arrows
...yeah...his brother took the arrows
DAMN IT y'all
His brother apologizing about him having to face it alone has me sobbing, it's 11:30pm at night
Give it up for Ding Yuxi, this performance...
DUDE GET OUT OF THERE NOW is all I can think about...glad he did think it through and told them to retreat
Surely the Emperor doesn't actually believe his stupid son
F- seriously if the Emperor really believes this??
Sui is doomed with that Crown Prince and with a sick Emperor...
Really...Duke? They just lost their entire family...
Well, at least the Emperor is aware
Oh good, I was hoping the mom would hug him
He looks angry at her...I'm not sure why
Wait, is she really using his death to investigate? I don't know how I feel about that...
...this mother is something else, but also if she does marry, she is technically not part of the Chu family anymore...
Wait, so is this not a romance between her and Wei Yun? lol I really should have read the synopsis on this before watching this show shouldn't I?
I am still not sure how I feel about her using this tragedy...
I wonder what happened between Gu Chusheng and Chu Yu, they do seem like they love each other in this flashback
Did he spit up blood perfectly into plum blossoms?
Well at least she's apologizing to him
Oh no, 2nd wife
Episode 4
Just handing over the family to the 2nd wife...
How is she going to reverse this "once this is over" anyway? Which honestly just means if we are rooting for the leads, it's going to be a last episode ordeal...
wow how the people have turned...but also yeah Cao Yan is a jerk
I never understood scenes like this where people start throwing things at people or the immediate change of heart.
Wow, what an absolute trash human. How do the people stand by and still side with him right now? I hope this guy dies some sort of horrible death in the near future
WHAT KIND OF LOGIC IS THAT...I'll just kill myself to absolve the family??
The smug look on Cao Yan's face...how he thinks it's a good idea to just arrest everyone and hurt anyone?
I like this conversation...
https://i.redd.it/bc1lbijr1eyf1.gif
Ding Yuxi has great expressions...
I'm not sure how smart it is to just go ahead and name your enemy..
The leg cuffs are a new one, man I really really want a painful death for Cao Yan
Alright, the next won't be as late...hopefully...it is Halloween but it's 1am and I'm heading to bed.
