Maybe the truth is, we’ll never know when we’re seen.

You could be walking home, head full of errands and half-thoughts, and someone, just a passerby, might catch the way you adjust your sleeve against the wind. They’ll think of it later for no reason at all. You won’t feel it happen; there won’t be a sign.

That’s the strange kindness of it all: we don’t get to prepare for when we matter. It arrives like weather, quiet, unannounced, already gone by the time we notice the air’s changed.

So maybe we stop rehearsing how we’ll be perceived, stop trying to tidy our presence for an audience that may or may not exist. Appreciation doesn’t ask for readiness; it just appears, takes what it needs, and moves on.

You can let it. You can keep walking. Nothing’s owed, nothing’s lost. You’ve already left more warmth in the world than you’ll ever know.
