Are paper checks more susceptible to fraud than electronic transactions?

I wrote a check the other day - I hardly do that any more and it got me wondering ... Whoever handles that slip of paper has my bank account and routing numbers as well as name, address, phone number, and inked signature. But for decades I've trusted this was a mostly safe way to pay for things.

I know check fraud is and has always been a thing, but it seems I hear more folks worrying about the risks posed by online transactions.

What's more secure overall?
