I finally stood up to my dad, and now my family won’t talk to me

My dad’s always been the kind of man everyone tiptoes around. Loud, stubborn, always right. Family gatherings revolve around keeping him happy.

Last week, he started yelling at my sister about her “life choices”, her career, her boyfriend, everything. She just sat there, shaking.

Something in me snapped. I told him he doesn’t get to humiliate people just because he’s miserable. I told him we’re all tired of being scared of him.

The room went dead silent. He left. My mom cried. Now no one’s talking to me, they say I “disrespected” him.

But for the first time in my life, I don’t feel small. I feel free. It’s sad that standing up for peace made me the villain, but I’d rather be honest than silent again.
