This has been on my mind for a week and I just can't shake it. Last week I 19f had traveled to go to a friend's birthday, and I stayed with my mom and fam because they were attending too. While I was at my mom's place they also had another one of my mutual friends, who we'll call "Needy" 24f over. I met Needy while working in retail 2 years ago and she's one of the few friends I made off of a job.

Well I hung out with Needy when I was up there and I was expressing my frustration about how each time I come back up to visit my mom she tries to exert some weird power over me and is angy and likes to humiliate me, but when we're on the phone she's all nice and kind. 

My mom and me have a tumultuous relationship as well and I won't go into everything here but she is very emotionally abusive, which is why I live 200 miles away. I only visit for my two younger sisters. Needy is very aware of my mom's emotional abuse because I used to call out a lot at work for her screaming or throwing dishes at me because my aunt worked with us and gossiped about it.

Well, when I told Needy how upset I was about situation she just snapped at me and said "You need to grow up. You don't even have it as bad as everyone else, especially me. My mom is Queen Bad Mom, at least your mom loves you, wants to be in your life, and you never fear being homeless. Your mom gave me a place to stay and take care of me, so I feel like you're just ungrateful to her. " I stayed quiet the rest of that night and I got overwhelmed again the day after at my friend's party and she asked me what was wrong so, which is the image above.

I felt like her response was fake or somewhat patronizing and so I didn't talk to her the rest of the time I was there.

Needy's mom is no doubt worse than mine as she is a heroine addict who lost all of her kids, including Needy, and I understand that, and I feel horrible about that, but I don't feel like it should undermine my experiences with my mom.
