I knew going in that Zelah and Farida would be the casualties last night, but I can’t help feeling that the audience reaction just perpetuates what I was trying to say in my post the other day (linked) about black and white thinking. The boos for Zelah were so uncalled for and I can only guess that the audience had such a one-track-mind on keeping Richard in, they turned Zelah into the enemy despite him doing nothing to deserve it. He’s even come to Richard’s defence on multiple occasions, most notably this week, but in that moment the audience just saw him as an obstacle and didn’t consider the consequences at all. Richard was already clearly staying. All that reaction has done, besides hurt someone who didn’t deserve it, is give Sam and Nancy reason to believe the public has taken their side in their little one-sided conflicts with Zelah. Nancy thinks it was because he called her aggressive (which he literally didn’t), Sam thinks it was because he was leading people on (I don’t agree that he did that either). It undermines everything Zelah tried to communicate to Sam about the bullying, giving them more confidence to continue the behaviour and feel validated doing it.

There’s no clear winner in that house for me anymore. I’ve never been so disappointed in the audience and the show in all my years of watching. I hope Zelah and his girlfriend get some peace from the shit she’s had to put up with online. I’m glad that they seem happy and unaffected by it. And I hope he understands that he didn’t do anything to deserve that treatment. He was collateral in someone else’s drama and it’s left a house full of bores, bullies, and sheep.

Yet another “disappointed with eviction night” post…
