The trailer: Scream creatives and marketing team are screwing with us
Okay, hear me out.
The Scream team has been watching us dissect trailers for literal decades. They know we pause every frame. They know we've built an entire conspiracy theory around plaid shirts and iPhones. They know exactly what we do.
And this trailer? It's a masterclass in giving us everything and nothing.
Mark's "death" is 100% a fake-out. Those quick cuts of someone in plastic? No way they're showing Sidney's husband actually dying in the trailer. It's either a dream sequence, a hallucination, or that's not even Mark. They wouldn't blow that in a trailer. They're better than that.
The plaid shirt. Ghostface dragging someone in plaid? Come on. Plaid = killer has been Scream shorthand since Billy Loomis in '96. This is the most obvious red herring they could possibly throw at us, and they know we know it.
Where is everyone else? Notice how most of the other suspects are barely in this thing? Instead we get Sidney, the main cast, and just enough chaos to keep us from stitching together the whole plot frame by frame like the obsessed fans we are.
They've been doing this for almost 30 years. They know what we do with trailers. They're three steps ahead of us, and honestly? I respect it.
This is going to be good.
