Are forex fees charged when the international website charges in INR?
Hi everyone, I wanted to clarify something about forex markup charges on credit cards.
If an international merchant (like WHOOP, Apple, or Adyen-based sites) charges in Indian Rupees (INR) — and the OTP / payment page also shows the exact INR amount with no additional tax or forex info — will banks still consider it a foreign transaction and apply the forex fee (usually 1–3%)?
Has anyone actually checked their credit card statement for such INR-denominated international purchases? Was there any forex charge added later?
Would really appreciate first-hand experiences or clarifications on how Indian banks treat these kinds of transactions.
