NAFLD is such an odd experience & switching primary care doctors
At my annual physical in August I had bloodwork ran and my Alkaline Phosphate was 130 and my ALT was 81. First time I’ve ever had numbers off.
Ran the tests again in early October and Alkaline Phosphate dropped to 113 and my ALT to 63.
My primary just responded to the results “High due to Fatty Liver Disease - lose weight.” I made a Hepatologist appointment bc this just sounded like I should be more concerned.
I’m not overweight, but could afford to lose a couple of pounds and tone up.
I’ve lost 7 pounds this month and had my hepatologist appointment yesterday. I got my liver numbers rechecked, my thyroid, and autoimmune panel done. And today I’m being sent for a liver elastography.
How are primary doctors able to just say “yeah just fatty liver” without excluding these other options. That’s like saying “yeah you have a heart murmur shrug” without even referring to a cardiologist.
*Side Note - I brought a bottle of a liver cleanse and asked her if I should start it. And she said “NO! We’re actually having tons of young people come in, even needing transplants, because they’ve given themselves liver toxicity from these ingredients. So check with you doc before starting supplements.
Long story short - I’m happy I took ownership of my own health and had this investigated further. If a second opinion only costs a copay - do it.
