Cold Compress and Hot Compress

Advice for Me

So, I had my surgery on Thursday the 30th of October. Today is Saturday the 1st of November.

The surgery included:

  • Le Fort I Osteotomy
  • Mandibular Osteotomy
  • Reposition Nerve

I spent a night in the hospital and I've been settling in at home. The swelling isn't so bad since I've been religiously replacing my ice packs the moment they feel even slightly warm.

Now, don't judge me, but I haven't taken a bath or a shower yet. I am unsure regarding heat and swelling.

It took me a while to feel comfortable the way I am now so I decided to wait on the shower/bath until I felt comfortable first and then I can start moving about and finding what is best for me.

My question is this:

Would it be a good idea to take like a 20 - minute warm bath and then reapply the cold compress? Or should I just take a brisk shower and not give heat a chance to "settle in"?

I have also been following the physio's instructions every morning with a Face Lymphatic Drainage Routine.
