Housing for Incoming PhD

DTU

Hey everyone. I just got word that my visa is approved and I start a PhD at DTU on December 15. I am non EU, so the visa took ages and I could not plan housing until now.

I have been digging around but I am still a bit lost. Quick summary of what I tried and what I am hearing:

  • BoligPortal: I am checking it, but move in prices look a bit much. Is this normal?

• Basecamp: I have heard mixed things about deposits and contract issues.

• s.dk: looks like a wait list, so maybe not useful for a December start, right? • Facebook: Lyngby or DTU groups feel quiet. Most posts are for Copenhagen areas, so I dont think it would be a good fit.

What I am looking for • Private place, studio or one bedroom • December/January move in • Budget (6000k-9000k), can stretch a bit if it avoids headaches • First time in Europe and in Denmark

I am also trying to stay safe. Which sites are actually trustworthy? Do people usually sign from abroad, or book a short term place near DTU for a month and then hunt in person?

Any concrete tips, commute realities, or neighborhood calls would help a lot. Thanks
