AITAH for blocking my 2 bestfriends after a halloween party?
I (19F) have been best friends with Jane (20F) and Ava (20F) for the past seven years. We all got into the same university this year. It was the first time we’d seen each other again after changing schools, so everything was going great. We studied, hung out, ate together, and basically never left each other’s side since the start of the school year.
However, Ava started texting her friends, saying that I was leaving her out with Jane — and some of them even managed to find my Instagram and argue with me there. I didn’t understand why Ava would do that, since she used to be the type to tell me things directly, not talk about them with others.
Slowly, Jane started hanging out with her more, without even telling me or inviting me. That’s when our trio began to fall apart.
I had been planning this Halloween party with Ava since November. I invited everyone and took care of all the planning — the only thing she had to do was ask her mom. But every time I asked her about it, she’d say she forgot and would ask later. A week before the party, she told me it wouldn’t be possible, so I gave up and texted Jane to see if she wanted to go to some random party instead, but she said no too.
So I ended up spending Halloween at my mom’s place, watching K-dramas all night. After finishing an episode, I went to the kitchen to grab something to eat and checked my phone — 99+ unread messages on Instagram and Snapchat. I opened Instagram first and the very first story I saw was from Ava. She did throw the party — the one I had organized — and at least 25 people were there.
I was mad and disappointed. Why would they throw a party I had planned, without me? I texted Ava, and she said it was just supposed to last an hour and everyone would leave after. She even apologized. I was still mad but a bit relieved — but that didn’t last long.
This morning, I woke up and saw on Snap Map that six people were still at her house. They’d had a sleepover. Out of anger, I just blocked both of them.
I don’t think I ever did anything wrong, except for the fact that I “keep embarrassing” them — apparently because of my looks. I know Ava really cares about her appearance, but I’m her best friend, not some kind of disappointment.
