IDL that women’s swimsuits are made to look sexy instead of free and comfortable like men’s swim trunks

Ever since I was a kid, I’ve felt uncomfortable in women’s swimsuits. They’re always so small and so revealing, it honestly feels like walking around in underwear.
Men get to wear swim shorts that actually look like shorts. But for us? Bikinis are basically bras and panties, and one-pieces often feel like tight bodysuits that still somehow don’t cover enough. No matter what, it feels like you’re always on display.

Once, before a beach trip with friends, I couldn’t help complaining, “Why do these all look like underwear?” One friend laughed and said, “You’ll have fun once you’re there,” and another said, “Everyone wears them, don’t kill the vibe.”

But that’s exactly what made me think, why do women’s swimsuits have to look like lingerie? Why is our comfort always secondary to appearance or social expectation? Why can’t we have options that feel free and not overly revealing?

I’m not saying everyone should cover up, and I don’t think bikinis are bad. I just wish there were more choices, ones that let you feel comfortable, confident, and in control of your own body.
Sometimes it’s not even about style, it’s about feeling safe and like you truly have a say in how you show up.
