Trying to remember a kids book

I remember reading this book in elementary school that was in the library. This was around 2007/2008. It was a kids book. All I remember is it had anthropomorphic cats with fancy clothes on and one specific thing I remember is one of the cats tail got cut with a knife and there was blood. I’ve thought about this book for a long time bc it was the first book I saw depicting blood. But I cannot remember anything else about it 😭
